Most people who call us already know they want help with the cleaning. What they are not sure about is how often. Weekly feels like a lot. Monthly feels like it might not be enough. And the honest answer is that the right rhythm depends on how many people live in your home, whether you have pets, how much square footage you are heating through a Michigan winter, and how much upkeep you are realistically willing to do between visits.
Here is how we help clients in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Lansing, and the rest of our service area pick a schedule that actually sticks.
The short answer
Every two weeks is the most common recurring schedule, and for good reason. It is the point where a home stays consistently presentable without you paying for visits you do not need. If you are choosing blind, start biweekly and adjust after two or three cleans. You will know quickly whether your home is coasting comfortably between visits or looking tired by day nine.
Weekly cleaning
Best for: households of four or more, homes with multiple pets, families with young kids, people who work from home full time, and anyone who entertains regularly.
Weekly visits mean nothing gets a chance to build up. Kitchen grease stays thin, bathroom soap scum never hardens, and pet hair does not accumulate in corners. Because there is less buildup to fight each visit, our crews spend more time on detail work and less on recovery. The trade-off is cost. Weekly is the most expensive recurring option, and plenty of homes simply do not generate enough mess to justify it.
Biweekly cleaning (every two weeks)
Best for: most families of two to four, dual-income households, homes with one pet, and anyone who wants the best balance of cost and result.
Two weeks is roughly how long a cleaned home holds its shape with light daily upkeep — dishes done, counters wiped, laundry moving. You are not maintaining the house so much as not undoing the work. This is the schedule we recommend most often, and it is the one clients stay on longest.
Monthly cleaning
Best for: singles and couples, empty nesters, smaller condos and apartments, second homes, and tidy low-traffic households.
Monthly service functions less like maintenance and more like a scheduled reset. Four weeks is enough time for real buildup, so these visits tend to run longer and cost more per visit than a biweekly clean — though less over the year. If you are on a monthly rhythm, plan on doing your own light upkeep in between, especially in kitchens and bathrooms.
Michigan-specific factors worth weighing
Our climate genuinely changes the math, and it is the part most national advice skips.
- Road salt, roughly November through March. Salt and slush track in on boots and are corrosive to hard floors and hard on carpet. Entryways, mudrooms, and the first ten feet of every floor take a beating. Many clients step up from monthly to biweekly for the winter and step back down in spring.
- Humid summers. Basement and bathroom humidity encourages mildew on grout, caulk, and window trim. Longer gaps between cleans give it more room to establish.
- Ragweed and furnace startup in fall. Late August through October brings peak ragweed, and the first furnace run of the season pushes months of settled dust through your ductwork and back into the air. Allergy-sensitive households usually want more frequent visits during this window.
- Closed-up winter homes. From December to March, most Michigan homes go months without an open window. Whatever is in the air stays in the air, which makes consistent surface and high-touch cleaning matter more, not less.
Where deep cleaning fits
Recurring service and deep cleaning are not the same product, and one does not replace the other. A recurring standard clean maintains. A deep clean resets — baseboards, inside appliances, grout, vents, behind and underneath. Most homes benefit from a deep clean every one to two months layered on top of a recurring schedule, or at minimum twice a year, in spring and again before the holidays. If you are starting recurring service for the first time, we usually recommend a deep clean as the first visit so the maintenance schedule begins from a clean baseline.
For offices and commercial spaces
Commercial rhythms run tighter. Restrooms, break rooms, lobbies, and high-touch surfaces in a staffed office generally need daily attention, with floors, glass, and detail work rotating weekly or monthly. Our daily janitorial checklist lays out what a proper commercial schedule should cover. Low-headcount offices can often run three days a week; anything customer-facing usually should not.
A quick way to decide
Count your yes answers: more than three people in the home, at least one shedding pet, someone home during the day, kids under ten, allergy or asthma concerns, more than 2,000 square feet, and regular hosting. Three or more points toward weekly. One or two points toward biweekly. Zero points toward monthly.
You are also not locked in. Most of our clients adjust at least once a year — tighter in winter and allergy season, looser in spring and summer.
